Q. What is the difference between a Demo and a Master Recording?

A. The difference is….

Demo is short for “demonstration recording”. A demo recording’s purpose is to sell a song to a publisher or record label and to be rerecorded if picked up. You can also use it to “pitch” yourself as a songwriter to publishers and recording artists as well. Demo’s prices are usually at a lesser rate and quality than Masters . You should not sell your demo recordings.

A Master Recording is a recording you plan to monetize to Itunes or any other digital format. Pitch to films. Something the public will buy and to be released to the masses. The sonic quality will be far superior.
